Hispanic Housing Development Corporation received award of a $500,000 grant from Project Reinvest; Neighborhoods as administered by NeighborWorks America, to improve our single family home program in Chicago Heights. Grant applications of more than $122,000,000 were received, and Hispanic Housing was one of 53 grantees for the $26,500,000 that was awarded.
Hispanic Housing has been working in the Chicago Heights area, including Homewood and Glenwood, for the past several years acquiring and renovating vacant and foreclosed homes. Previously, Hispanic Housing participated in the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) and Attorney General of Illinois (AG) to purchase foreclosed home. With these grant funds we acquired over 60 homes in the region to improve and rent as a scattered site portfolio. With this new grant from Project Reinvest, 30 homes in Chicago Heights will receive further improvement to their exteriors to enhance their marketability and “curb appeal” and improve the visible investment in this community.
