HHDC dedicated its new building at 1203 N. California to Pedro Albizu Campos. Albizu Campos was a Puerto Rican attorney, politician and leading figure in the Puerto Rican independence movement. Mayor Johnson led the group of civic leaders in the dedication. Supporters included Puerto Rican Cultural Center Executive Director Jose Lopez, Alderperson Fuentes, Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) Executive Director Kristin Faust, CHA CEO Scott and Merchants Capital SVP Alan Cravitz. About 100 people and the media attended the event.
Constructed by Path Construction, the building was designed by Pappageorge Haymes architects. The $40 million project was financed with support from the IHDA, the DOH, the CHA, Merchants Capital and ComEd’s Affordable Housing New Construction program.
