Paul Mittleman joined HHDC in 2003. He has been responsible for the acquisition of 1,900 apartment units in 12 projects at HHDC. These acquisitions utilized HUD mark-to-market debt relief, tax-exempt bonds, 4% low-income housing tax credits, financing from the Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund, Cook County Department of Planning and Development, the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program, Housing Partnership Equity Trust and CDT. In addition, these acquisitions and other projects involved almost $40 million of rehabilitation. Paul's responsibilities also include asset management--the long-term physical and financial planning for HHDC's portfolio. He has been responsible for almost one-half billion dollars of financing, including sizable proceeds to HHDC.
Prior to his employment at HHDC, Mr. Mittleman served as Vice President at Carter Page & Associates, a mortgage banking and development consulting firm. Before joining Carter Page & Associates, Paul was the Chief Financial Officer of American Community Housing Associates (ACHA), which was formed to acquire and renovate government-assisted housing throughout the United States. Other experience includes work as Chief Financial Officer of Chicago Dwellings Association and as an Audit Manager at Ernst & Young.
He is a Certified Public Accountant and a cum laude graduate of Carleton College.
