Richard Figueroa joined HHDC's Board of Directors in 2005. For the past 25 years, he has helped build and lead teams that have invested, developed and capitalized more than $4 billion of commercial real estate.
Mr. Figueroa is currently responsible for the impact investor platform at IFF, a Chicago-based CDFI. There, he is charged with designing, capitalizing and implementing bespoke affordable housing loan funds across the Midwest.
Mr. Figueroa previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Janko Group, a private investment and development company. In addition to helping lead the development of more than $150 million of commercial real estate across the Midwest, he was also responsible for outlining and executing business strategies across all Janko Group subsidiaries, including investment, development, construction, and asset management.
Before joining Janko Group, Mr. Figueroa was Director of Capital Markets for The Opus Group, a national developer and design build general contractor. At Opus he was responsible for developing and leading a national capital markets platform that sourced equity capital for all development and investment opportunities, totaling nearly $1 billion during his tenure.
Prior to his time with The Opus Group, Mr. Figueroa was Director of Acquisitions for Mansur & Company, a post he held for four years. There he was responsible for implementation and operation of the commercial real estate investment platform. Previously he worked at ORIX Real Estate Capital, Inc., Cohen Financial, Jones Lang LaSalle, Prudential Securities and William Blair & Company.
He is currently a Trustee for the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois, a $40 billion state retirement plan. There, Mr. Figueroa helps allocate investment capital to asset managers across all asset categories. Part of this effort includes evaluating how investment managers committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion deliver positive financial and social impact returns.
Mr. Figueroa has a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a Master of Arts Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
